Interview
Translation checking involves thorough knowledge of both the languages – Japanese and English. Can a person be an expert in 2 such different languages?
Well, I was raised speaking English! Seriously, I am still learning my native language too. As a legal specialist, I am still learning new terminology and styles of expression. Becoming a Japanese specialist required the willingness to see myself once again as a baby and relearn everything by imitation of those around me.
What is the most remarkable translation checking you have ever done?
I can't divulge specifics, but I once had an Ulatus assignment that brought together my love of Japanese and American history with a legal dispute that required a large volume of translation. It was really educational.
How do you keep yourself updated with the recent happenings in the industry and the subject you check?
I follow the news with a passion to keep up to date with the Japanese industry as well as developments in the translation industry.
