ACT Alliance is a global alliance of more than 145 churches and related organizations working together in over 120 countries to create positive and sustainable change in the lives of poor and marginalized people. ACT Alliance is the world's largest coalition of Protestant and Orthodox churches and church-related organizations engaged in humanitarian, development, and advocacy work.
ACT Alliance was established on 1 January 2010 by bringing together the vision, resources, the people of the organisations who have been working together since 1995 as ACT International and since 2003 as ACT Development. Its goal is to promote a locally-led and coordinated approach to advocacy, humanitarian, and developmental issue.
ACT Alliance contacted Ulatus for assistance with their webinar that focused on Youth, Climate Justice, LGBTQI, Inequalities, Digitalization. Ulatus provided ACT Alliance with Simultaneous Interpretation Service in French and Spanish for their Electronic General Assembly, which took place on a virtual platform and was a four-day event.
There were five breakout rooms for each language during the webinar, and Ulatus had to provide separate interpretation services. Therefore, Ulatus assigned two interpreters per group for each language. Therefore, a high level of planning and coordination was required before and during the event. The project managers also had to ensure that discussions in all the breakout rooms ran smoothly.
Ulatus was informed about the additions of speakers few hours before the event.
The event included specialized speakers from different domains who spoke on a particular subject during the webinar. It was a challenge to assign the interpretation of these different topics to professionals having a similar area of expertise. A separate SME had to be selected for each topic of discussion. Backups were needed for unforeseen reasons on the day of the event.
The client had different set of topics related to social welfare and humanities [ex: Youth, Climate Justice, LGBTQI, Inequalities, Digitalization] to be covered in the webinar. They wanted the interpretation quality to be top-notch and to convey the exact meaning and sentiments of the speaker to the audience. As a faith-based organization, the client needed interpreters who would have humanitarian and advocacy vocabulary knowledge.
Ulatus managed to meet all of the client requirements, through some of our key efforts mentioned below:
Using technology platform all interpreters, clients and the project managers was created to keep everyone aligned with the expectations of the webinar and to resolve the queries of the interpreters in a faster manner. All the required instructions and disclaimers regarding the project were shared on this common platform. Multiple meetings were organized to understand the exact requirements of the client and to convey it to the interpreters correctly.
Ulatus understands that such topics require a lot more heart in the project then just SME knowledge. With the introduction of a French speaker in the webinar just few hours before the event, we needed to act on it quickly and provide the client with a few more interpreters. Our project manager worked out a strategy, worked 24 hours to make sure the interpreters were ready on the event day. Also, we provided a solution of relay interpretations, wherein the French was interpreted in English and then the English speech was used to translate into Spanish providing the client with the expected outcome.
Based on the subject areas of the topics of discussion, multiple interpreters were evaluated to be a part of this project. Ulatus made sure that the selection of interpreters for this project was done accurately. Special training and evaluation system was created where client specific needs could be met.
Ulatus team worked round the clock in providing top quality simultaneous interpretation in French, & Spanish as per clients requirements and timelines resulting in huge customer delight and new projects for us to handle.
